The local branch of the PSOE in Almuñécar has raised concerns about the planned, new entrance into La Herradura from the N-340, which they say is in a state of “technical abandonment.”
Their Spokesman, Álvaro López, says that the mobility in the area is tied down by the new PGOU (General Urban Development Plan) which has still not come into being, despite the Mayor stating that its approval was “imminent” in 2023 and then again in February 2025.

“How much longer must La Herradura wait for an election pledge to stop being a press headline and become a real project?” the spokesperson asked, after 15 years of delay in its final approval by the Junta de Andalucia.
The present access junction is highly dangerous for pedestrians because there is no pavement and vehicles are perched on an incline waiting for the lights to change if they want access onto the main road in the direction of Málaga.
“While other municipalities move forward by taking advantage of European funds and sustainability plans, we see vital projects being left out of the 2025 EDIL investments,” López stated, adding, “The governing party promised a transformation that, in reality, moves at a snail’s pace, always using the excuse of a bureaucracy they should have resolved long ago.”
He concluded with, “Citizens have the right to know why, if approval was ‘well advanced’ in May 2023, we are still at the starting line today,” concluded López.
The fact is in times past the municipal administration and the regional government had been run by opposition parties but both the Town Council and the Junta de Andalucia have been in the hands of the same party for well over a decade… so what is the problem?

What indeed is the problem? If I can hazard a guess it is that pedestrians are not high up the political agenda, despite the PSOE raising concerns. Grim as the thought is, perhaps the matter will only come to a head after a terrible accident. Meanwhile, cars continue to whizz round the roundabout, bunch up at the lights, dash down the hill or ignore the stop sign. A little protection for pedestrians from such madness is not much to ask is it? Like a footpath or a pedestrian crossing. It doesn’t take the Junta of Andalusia to make a decision about that does it? Surely not.
