La Despensa is really two businesses on the same premises: one is the shop with a wide selection of Alpujarra produce, and the other is the restaurant/bar.
Starting with the shop, you can find everything from cold meats and cheeses to honey & jams, wine and olive oil. There’s a great selection of Serrano hams, as well. This shop section of the premises is open at normal shop hours.
On to the restaurant/bar. The main dining room is spacious and cozily furnished, ideal for an intimate diner for two, as well as group events. The bar area is also extensive and equally comfortable.
La Despensa does a Menu del Dia for 11.80 euros with a choice from four dishes for both the starter and main course. The menu includes a drink plus a dessert or coffee.
La Despensa is ideally placed with Motril, situated between the Guardia Civil post and the Port roundabout, so it has at least two handy parking areas: next to the Guardia Civil, and within a hundred metres there is the underground car park under the Plaza de la Tranvia, just off the said roundabout.
