The Mayor of Almuñécar recently announced that the Town Hall had chosen a building plot for a new secondary-education school for La Herradura.
However, the far-left, opposition party, Izquierda Unida, say that they were “surprised” by the choice of location for the much needed school.

The IU has warned since 2010 that a new high school next to the the multi-sports facilities was not ideal because how distant it was from the village centre, which in their opinion, would mean that they would have to be taken to school by car.
In fact, they lodged an ammendment to the project to place this educational facility there, suggesting a change in location, which was backed by other political groups… including the Mayor’s party, as at the time Big Bad Benny was the Mayor and had chosen the plot’s location.
The Leader of the IU, Francisco Fernández, said, “We are surprised that the Mayor’s party now proclaims this location as a success story when they opposed it in 2010.”
“It wasn’t an ideal site 16 years ago and it continues not being an ideal one now. Our position hasn’t changed even though the party in power changes,” said Sr. Fernández, underlining the hypocrisy shown by the PP in this affair.
Editorial comment: teenagers should be encouraged to walk, preferably looking where they are going instead of at their mobile phones. Besides, urban areas expand;one day this spot won’t be ‘out in the sticks’
