Fatal Electric-Scooter Accident

A 17-year-old girl died riding an electric scooter in the city of Málaga after she lost control and hit her head, making the accident the first fatal incident involving this kind of vehicle in the metropolitan area of the city.

The accident occurred on October the 4th at around 13:45h inside the Alcazaba tunnel (See photo). No other vehicles was involved and the road surface does not have any potholes or other defects inside the tunnel that would caused her to lose control of the electric scooter.

Chance would have it that her twin brother was riding his own electric scooter directly behind her and witnessed the whole tragic incident.

Although she was wearing a helmet (an open-face one), she still suffered a fatal traumatic brain injury, prompting authorities to recommend full-face helmets. From the very beginning, paramedics warned of her low chances of survival. She was admitted in critical condition to the Regional Hospital, where she passed away hours later.

Experts point out that electric scooters lack stability at the speed that they are capable of and, in the case of an accident, the rider’s body absorbs the full force of any impact.

Although there have been very serious incidents previously in the city (such as one two years ago involving an elderly woman who was hit by an electric scooter and whose rider fled the scene) this is the first time that there has been a fatality in the city involving an electric scooter.

Sadly if you’re going to faceplant off a bike, a electric scooter , moped or motorcycle. Then first off your good looks are really going to suffer. But without full facial cover. The skull which is a rather tuff vault. Will really give that big sponge of a brain a severe thrashing. I know, I know. You’d look silly on a cycle or scooter with a full facial helmet. But if it stops say 12 deceased or brain damaged people , then it does the job. Maybe they can come up with a flip down cycle helmet face guard??
