Although in no way comparable to the flooding scenes of Valencia, here on the Costa Tropical the rains have filled previous dry ramblas, such as the ones in Motril.

It was around midday Monday in Motril when a cloud burst drenched Motril, prompting the Town Hall to activate its Plan de Emergencia Municipal and inform 112 about it, just in case

Mayor Luisa García Chamorro, said that the it was “raining non-stop causing numerous problems around the town,” although nobody was hurt nor properties damaged.

The Rambla de Las Brujas was flowing from bank to bank carrying vegetation and probably rubbish along down to the beach. The Town Hall had despatch machinery down to the mouth of the rambla to unblock it.

In the meantime, traffic had to slow down to negotiate the puddles, which was no great hardship. In the town centre, though manhole covers were ejected by rain water spouting out through them and the odd, rubbish hopper went on a cruise.

That same day in Salobreña, the Paseo Maritimo was almost one long puddle down the side of the paseo from one end to the next, making it difficult to cross the road to reach the chiringuitos. This is a problem everytime it rains and is because the level of the road is just over a metre above sea level so, the drain network literally has nowhere to drain to.
