The Albolote Local Police were surprised, to say the least, when they received a call from a man to say that he had dinked a car and driven away but feeling guilty, he wanted to confess.
Not only did he ‘turn himself in’ but also asked the police to help him find the owner of the damaged, parked vehicle.
“The caller asked us to turn up were the car was parked to meet him and for us to find out who it belonged to,” explained the Chief of Police.
The police shared this incident on their social media as a way to “‘”encourage others to come forward in such incidents and to follow this driver’s example” and use a Parte amistoso“ (Amicable Accident Report), which is the standard insurance form used in Europe (specifically the Blue Form) to settle minor claims without a long legal battle.
The reality is, of course, that such gestures are rarer than rocking horse…. because the normal reaction is to high-tail it out of there. However, the police are hopeful, a.k.a. criminally optimistic.
