We're speaking metaphorically, of course, as we mean back from political absence. We're referring to a statement from Daniel Barbero on the handling of La Herradura.
Almuñécar’s non-aligned councilor, Daniel Barbero, has described the management of municipal funds as an “absolute failure,” pointing out that Almuñécar and La Herradura “have been seriously harmed by a lack of political leadership and institutional influence within the Partido Popular.”

Bear in mind that Councillor Barbero was the present Mayor’s right-hand man within the PP before having a serious falling out. He was also a Vice-Mayor under a Benavides administration, so it’s no wonder that he is ‘non-aligned within the Town Hall.
He has complained that, despite having requested more than €15 million in subsidies, the municipality has only received just over €5 million and questions the fact that not a single relevant project has been allocated to La Herradura.
“It is outrageous that an area with so much tourism and cultural potential is completely forgotten in the distribution of funds,” Barbero says.
Daniel Barbero compares the amount allocated to Almuñécar with what neighbouring municipalities will receive, stating that “Nerja, with 5,000 fewer inhabitants, has received 9 million euros; Motril and Torremolinos have received over 30 million in subsidies in less than three years, which shows that when there are mayors with political clout, vision, and management skills, results arrive.”
The councilor states that “we cannot continue to miss opportunities. It is time to demand responsibility, transparency, and a new way of governing that considers the future of everyone and not squander the absolute majority and the enthusiasm with which we went to the elections,” he concludes.

Reader’s comment: “Perhaps in retrospect we might consider that La Herradura has been better served by the lack of new investment?
Previous attemps to attract more tourists (I’m thinking of the comfortable concrete benches situated in full-sun along the Paseo and especially the large purple, pleasure device placed in a prominent position on the playa).
Maybe the council might like to consider converting the entire length of the Paseo car-parking area into a gigantic coach park to encourage the influx of more tourists and effectively block the road to any other traffic, add a “Tren” and a McDonald’s and maybe a Trump branded casino or hotel and the transformation would be complete.” George
