New Paseo Work

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, announced that work on the Paseo de La Caletilla will begin tomorrow, April the 13th.

The company that got the job was Aquaterra with a bid of 1,800,000 euros (including VAT) and the task should be completed within ten months.

The usual tasks will be carried out:

Underground: mains water, rain drainage, sewage and other utilities such as electricty and phone lines.
Above ground: make the whole surface into one level; i.e., with cars and pedestrians on the same level but separated and large palms will be replace by smaller ones of a different species.

It looks like the existing, raised path running beside the buildings will be on the same level as traffic…

In fact, residents living along that stretch of road will be offered free parking in the Altillo underground car park because they won’t be able to reach their homes with their cars, as access will be cut off at the Altillo rounabout. Yes, emergency vehicles will have access at all times, claims the Councillor for Public Works.

As for the municipal bus serving the area, it will have its route modified; the bus company will be responsible for providing updates for users regarding these changes.

What about the bars and businesses along the affected area? The Councillor says that they will not be affected until September; i.e., after the summer.

Editorial comment: can’t they just stop buggering about, digging up streets; it wasn’t that long ago that the dug it all up last time. It’s perfectly fine as it is – just leave it alone. OK, when you get to be a pensioner’s age, nothing seems that long ago, admittedly, but even so…

Why don’t they pedesterianise Paseo Segovia between Calle Eucaliptos (cafe lisboa) and Calle Baranquillo in La Herradura? Seems to me that would be a good use of La Reserve/Lego Land tax revenue.
