A young man caused such a hullabaloo in the bar within a football ground that the referee was tempted to stop the match.
This occurred on the 25th in Iznalloz (Montes Orientales), up in the north of the province during a regional match.
Before the referee reached this drastic decision, three officers from the Policía Local arrived (which amounts to about all the town’s police officers).
The lad in question was intent upon starting World War Three – all indications were that he had sniffed or swallowed something illegal whilst watching the game.
Now, in small towns across Spain, going to a football match is a family outing so there are kids about. So, loudly putting into doubt the sexual inclinations of the referee or the profession of a particular player’s mother, would bother quite a few parents with kids there.
The officers told him to quieten down but he wouldn’t, so they decided to escort him out of the grounds. The result was that he punched one of the officers on the side of the head and bit another officer’s wrist. This is when the cuffs came out.
The officers handed him over to the gentle care of the Guardia Civil, who took him to Granada as neither the municipal police nor the Guardia Civil in Iznalloz have holding cells.
Hours later he was released, charged with causing bodily harm to an officer of the law.
Now, the reason for the title of this article is because this incident was not the only case of somebody getting bitten; a shoplifter bit a security guard at a shopping centre after he was rumbled.
This happened around five in the afternoon in one of Granada’s large, shopping centres. A security guard saw the 27-year-old suspect going past the line of checkouts with a 5L-bottle of olive oil worth around 45 euros.
Two guards chased after him, catching up in a nearby park and a struggle between the three men ensued, during which the security guards were “threatened with death,” received various blows and kicks, with one of the guards being bitten. In fact, the man also tore some hair out by the roots from one man’s head.
Such was the scuffle that another security guard joined the ‘engagement’ to keep hold of the man until the police arrived
He was taken to the police station and charged with petty theft and causing actual bodily harm.
