MOT False Kidnapping OnLA Motril man claimed that he’d been kidnapped in his own car by two unknown men, who forced him to drive to the outskirts, before throwing him out and driving off. The Policía Nacional, however, didn’t believe him and ended up arresting him for making a false statement.

According to the arrested man, the incident had taken place just after he left a night bar in the early hours of the morning – this was before the present restrictions on that sector.

Once the man reported the alleged kidnapping and car theft, the police opened an investigation, suspecting from the beginning that the account that the man had given was suspicious, to say the least.

The 19-year-old man’s claims simply didn’t tie in together on more than one point. For instance, he had been seen inside the bar with the two supposed assailants in a very friendly get together by witnesses in the bar.

Apparently, the three left together in his car with the intention of finding certain recreational substances. Having acquired it, the arrested man was in a state of semi consciousness but when his mind cleared a bit, he found that his car and two friends had gone, so he made up the story about the kidnapping in order to report the supposed theft of the car.

The police had no trouble indentifying the two friends and pulling them in for questioning. They explained how they had got into the car together and that as the car owner was ‘out of it,’ they parked the car on a side street and went to their respective homes, leaving the 19-year-old to find his own way home on foot.

As for legal retribution for making a false police statement, he not only faces charges for reporting a false robbery, but will also be charged a sum of between 200 and 1,000 euros for the man-hours lost through wasting police time.
