Four officers belonging to the Policía Nacional in Motril arrested a man on a Torrenueva beach for threatening bathers with an airgun.
The incident occurred yesterday around 13.30h when a 28-year-old individual moved along the beach holding what looked like a fire arm in the form of a pistol whilst pointing it at groups of people. This caused quite a stir and bathers soon began to phone the police.
Seeing the alarm that he had caused he threw the weapon, which turned out to be an air pistol, into a litter bin and went to sit outside a cafeteria on the paseo in order to go unnoticed.
However, when the police patrol car turned up to check out the situation, locals soon pointed him out to them. The suspect a Romanian who is well known to the police and has a criminal record, was reportedly drunk.
It took all four police officers to subdue and handcuff the man after a brief struggle and take him into custody at the Motril police station. But first, once he was safely in the patrol car, they searched the area and found the weapon.
