SAL Mayor talking to police and legionSalobreña Town Hall has acquired 120, Covid-19 test kits for controlling possible contagion within the Policía Local, which should arrive next week. The twenty members of the police force will be tested once a week.

Mayor, María Eugenia Rufino, explained that they were just a precautionary measure and it was not because any member of the municipal police force had been showing symptoms provoked by the said virus.

“Should any one of them show signs of infection, they will automatically be quarantined and have tests carried out by medical staff,” she explained.

Mayor Rufino Morales finished by explaining that the 120 tests should last approximately six weeks so depending on how the situation advances a decision would be made to purchase more.

On a different note, the Spanish Legion, which is an elite, light-infantry formation, came to Salobreña on Tuesday afternoon to inspect the town’s resources to see how they are organised. The Mayor said that the commanding office was both surprised and satisfied by Salobreña’s state of preparedness.

Editorial comment: La Legión has been tasked with checking towns and cities all over the country, making a stock check, which is both reassuring and a little disconcerting – such knowledge would be essential should martial law come into force…
