Cat Campaign – Wonky World

The Seaside Gazette has Stand-Up Stan and now Halifax in Canada has Tuxedo Stan, who is campaigning to become may of the town. Of course, this being a World Section story, Tuxedo Stan is a cat.

This young feline fellow, described locally as both clever and opinionated, is campaigning under the campaign slogan of ‘A chicken in every pot and a litter box in every house,’ hopes to improve awareness concerning the increasing numbers of stray cats in the town.

His following has been so great that even a local councillor candidate called Wayne Mason posted on Twitter, ‘I’m just glad I’m not running against Tuxedo Stan. He’s everywhere these days.’

With posters of Tuxedo Stan all over the town, he has kept his comments mainly to his Facebook page, the latest campaign comments went, “I feel very fortunate to live in Catopia. I’ve never known hunger, cold or abuse, I sleep in a warm, cosy bed every night and I get to play in a safe, fenced yard every day. Unfortunately, there are cats all over the world who aren’t so lucky. You can help by donating money or time to a local rescue group.”

Sadly, Canadian law forbids animals from holding office, but this hasn’t stopped Stan putting paw to paper and claw to keyboard to try and improve the lives of other felines. His campaign has made the mighty moggie the unofficial mascot of Halifax.

Good luck Tuxedo!
