There has recently been a bit of confusion over just what the surgery times are for the paediatrician at the La Herradura medical centre. It started with an article on the online newspaper in Spanish, infocostatropical.com, published on the 25th of last month, stating that Convergencia Andaluza had denounced a loss of medical assistance coverage for the villagers, thanks to a reduction in hours that the pediatrician is available.
The CA declared that the Thursday and Friday hours had been cut by half, warning that worse was to come. Infocostatropical said that medical sources had confirmed that the Almuñécar medical centre had lost a post for a child doctor, whose workload would be taken up by the La Herradura child doctor; hence the reduction in the village hours.
As a consequence of the publication of this article – a publication that is not the favourite colour of the month for the new town-hall administration – the First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, got on the line to the Head of the Regional Medical Services in Almuñécar, María Cristina Sánchez García, who said:
* The pediatrician’s surgery in La Herradura has in no moment considered reducing its hours.
* There has been a provisional adjustment, which will last until December this year.
* I confirm that the information published in the said newspaper was not provided by any reliable or authorized medical source.
So, from what we at the Seaside Gazette can gather there has been a temporary reduction that will end in December.
