Gaviotas and Serbia

Back on the 5th of June, representatives from Las Gaviotas School met at the Civic Centre with a group of representatives from the Teachers Association of Leskovac (Serbia).

Physical education is the subject being discussed more that any other in La Herradura. The problem being the ongoing and long standing, lack of facilities for school children here in La Herradura.

Eco Rastro

The second ‘Eco Rastro’ was a resounding success – due partly to some decent weather, and partly to the fact more people are becoming aware of its existence.

Fresh School Hope

Parents in La Herradura are once again demanding a new school for their children, as the present school does not meet all the criteria necessary to provide a reasonable quality of education for it’s pupils, citing that students have to leave the grounds during breaks and no gymnasium or sports court facilities are available.

Bubión Junior School

Meanwhile, over in Bubión – yes, there is life outside Lanjarón – the junior school is doubling as a courthouse for the Justice of the Peace.

Crumbling School

The 36 pupils of the Busquístar junior school cannot exactly be considered spoilt, as they have had to put up with the wintery temperatures of the Alpujarra without heating in their classroom.

Inter Spanish Courses

Just before Christmas I stopped off at Inter, the language school, just opposite Plaza Mayor in Almuñécar, and Jimmy, who runs this brilliant school told me about their courses and work ethic.
They pride themselves on having highly qualified teachers, using a communicative approach to all lessons, which are always conducted in a friendly atmosphere.

School Dinners

The IU councillor, Fermín Tejero, has asked the Junta de Andalucía to annul a planned increase in the cost of school dinners.
