The Central Government department, Costas, has organized the ‘regeneration’ of sand on Cotobro beach so that it is ready for the summer onslaught.

The gale-beaten beaches of Costa Tropical will have 100,000 euros spent on them to bring them up to scratch for the summer, says the Central Government through the Ministry for the Environment.

It appears to be a yearly event; Cotobro beach, which gets washed away by spring and autumn gales, is in the process of being topped back up again, with sand grabbed from the Puerta del Mar beach, near the Paseo del Altillo.

El Chucho Topped Up

On the 22nd of March the Nerja Town Hall approved a motion in a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council to send of a request to Demarcación de Costas de Andalucía Mediterráneo to have the town’s beaches sorted out, which had been badly damaged by winter gales, namely El Chucho.

Today, there was an article in the provincial press, concerning Cotobro Beach, or more accurately, the lack of it: the gale at the beginning of the week had wiped it out. The high cost of sorting out the rapidly disappearing beach of Playa Granada, estimated at 15 million euros, probably means that it is not going to get sorted out this side of the Second Coming.
