In Search of Blood

Marina del Este, together with the rest of the marinas belonging to the Asociación de Puertos Deportivos y Turísticos Marinas de Andalucía, is taking the Consejería de Obras Públicas de la Junta de Andalucía to court, as well as the Agencia Pública de Puertos de Andalucía (APPA). As you can imagine, this is a fair indication that they are not happy bunnies.

You Get What You Deserve?

The Granada, provincial branch of the Ecologistas en Acción have sent in a report (denuncia) to the Environment and Public Works Department of the Junta de Andalucía over what they qualify as a ‘tremendous amount of illegal earth shifting’ that is could well adversely effect the barranco de la Vizcarra, up above Calahonda (Karst area). It was precisely storm water from this barranco (gully) that caused the flooding in the village several months ago.

Nobody Guilty

One of the nationwide trade unions, the CCOO, has expressed its indignation upon hearing of the acquittal verdict over the A-7 bridge disaster, which occurred in November 2005, causing the loss of six lives. Consequently, the CCOO is studying the possibility of submitting an appeal.

Painting Exhibition in Motril

La Casa Condesa de Torre Isabel will be hosting a painting exhibition by Manuel Ruiz y Enrique Pérez-Linares from now until the 14th of April. These same works have been on display in Granada, where they attracted many visitors.

It’s Silly Season!

There was a small fire at the beginning of March on the garden terraces, behind the Edif. La Roca block of flats, which is more or less where the Paseo del Altillo ends and where Paseo Prieto Moren begins.

HMS Ledbury Visit

Members and guests of Almuñecar Branch of the Royal Naval Association recently had the opportunity to visit a Royal Navy vessel, HMS Ledbury, while she was alongside in Málaga. The ship, which is also the oldest in the RN at 31, also has the dubious honour of being the first RN ship to deploy during 2012, having left Portsmouth in early January.

A Happy Ending

On the 15th of March there was an article in the Ideal newspaper concerning a couple that was living in the back of a car, after losing their jobs and finally their home. Such was the sympathy evoked by the article that the following day the same newspaper announced that the couple hand been offered work and a house in which to live. Read on.

Plaza Jabeque de Santa Adela

Locals will have noticed work taking place on the Plaza Jabeque de Santa Adela. A total of 118,000 euros is being spent to give the square a children’s play park, as well as benches, a drinking fountain, and exercise equipment for the elderly. The park will be finished off with a surrounding fence and the seven lampposts renewed.

Whoops!

The Chairman of the Granada Press Association threw what can only be described as an atomic wobbly when confronted by a heckler at an Hispano-Israeli conference in Granada. Things became simply surreal when a young woman burst into the hall waving a Palestinian flag quickly followed by the Chairman whipping his belt off and brandishing it at her, promising to thrash the startled woman.
