Whilst the Almuñécar Town Hall announces that underground parking charges will be slashed by nearly half, the IU councillor, Fermín Tejero says that it could have gone further by leaving Playa Cotobro and Velilla with a hybrid system whereby one side of the road is free parking and the other paid-for Blue Zone. This last proposal was not backed by any other political group.
Getting back to what has been approved, the Town Hall announced that the 350 publicly owned parking spaces that exist within the San Cristóbal and Velilla underground car parks will be charged at 17 cents rather than 36 cents per minute during the first half hour. After the first 30 minutes, the rate will drop to 15 cents per minute.
Furthermore, you will be able to park your car there all day for half the previous price, meaning that instead of costing 20 euros a day it will cost ten.
As we have seen, open land has been turned into improvised car parks; the money generated from which goes to charity.
Now all we have to do is put a tax on jellyfish entering to within 20 metres of the beach – might even keep the blighters away!
