Editorial Comment: A Slap in the Face

Some members of the Almuñécar hostelry community consider that the Fería de Dia, set up along Calle Pinto Rivera is little more than a ‘slap in the face’ from the Town Hall and many people would agree with them.

There has always been a fun drop available for the unwary, unwitting and unwanted from the Cotobro beach road to the beach below, owing to a ridiculously narrow pavement and a sadist lack of fencing.

The first time, it went well; the second time it went very well, and the third time, Saturday 4th of August, it was a crushing success, cramming the main streets of Almuñécar with literally hundreds of shoppers.

A Priority?

The Almuñécar branch of the socialist opposition party, the PSOE, has called attention to the ‘dangerous entrance’ from the N-340 to Las Palomas, La Herradura, which is just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Gelibra Lane Unfinished?

Joaquín Mingorance Romero,who is the chairman of the Asociación de Vecinos de Gelibra, (Almuñécar) has made a written complaint to the Town Hall, expressing his rejection of the Council’s response to a request made in September 2011 for the work on the access lane to Gelibra to be completed; i.e., tarmacked, etc.

Jelly Bandits

Protección Civil for Almuñécar/Herradura has issued its figures for July, concerning First Aid on the at its four beach posts: La Herradura, San Cristóbal, Puerta del Mar and Velilla beaches. Jelly-fish stings are up, which is hardly surprising as there are more people around to be stung, so to speak.

More Firemen

Three more firemen were sworn into the department after the selection process was completed, bringing the Almuñécar, Fire-Service staff up to a total of fifteen.
