Spectacular Freestyle A Success

Over 4,000 spectators packed into the Almuñécar municipal stadium, Francisco Bonet, to witness Dylan Trull win the Nacional de Freestyle de Almuñécar.

The best motocross freestyle riders in Spain gathered to pit themselves against each other in these national championships – the 6th to be held in Almuñécar. There is nothing quite so spectacular as watching these lunatics launching their bikes 20 metres into the air, divorce themselves from the machine for majestic moments before – somehow – getting back into the saddle to take the impact of landing without killing themselves.

Edgar Torronteras took second place, whilst third went to José Miralles. The Mayor, Trinidad, Herrera, the Councillor for Sports, Luis Aragón and Antonio Granados from the Provincial Board of Sports were there to hand out the trophies – and to get included in the photos, of course.

This sporting event wouldn’t have been possible without the sponsorship of numerous local businesses, as well as the Town Hall, of course, and above all, Jorge Barrea who was the person who first organised this event, when it was held up at the old Taramay (Barrio San Juan) football ground, where the Almuñécar industrial estate now stands.
