Bad Parking

A small speed boat or motor launch came to grief on the rocks at the end of the Fuente Piedra breakwater, which is more or less in front of Las Gondolas, Almuñécar.

Apparently, the foreign owners of the small craft were warned by locals about anchoring near the breakwater after the wind and tide changed to poniente (coming from the west) but reportedly the couple who reside in Almuñécar decided to wait until the next day to move the boat to Marina del Este.

The result was that the craft sank in the shallow water after constantly hitting  the rocks. The next day, it was towed out and presently remains beached with a nasty hole on the port side, as well as other damage caused by colliding with the rocks.

The locals are well aware of the abrupt changes in wind and tide in this area and this couple, from Belgium or Holland judging by the plaque on the boat, are not the first to come to grief because of it – the sinking of the fleet in La Herradura Bay comes to mind in the 1500’s.
