Law Courts Cordoned Off

he Almuñécar law courts were cordoned off with a heavy Policia Nacional and Guardia Civil presence. This extra security was in place for the transfer of six people that had been arrested in party of the anti-drugs, police operation, Operacion Pozo.

Not Dead

The Spanish, extreme right-wing showed that it was not dead, unfortunately, but alive amongst us with a surprise rally in Almuñécar on Sunday.

Common Sense Prevails

Bank Robbery in Almuñécar

Very little information is available at the moment, but the robbery took place around 08:30 at the savings bank Unicaja in the Plaza de Madrid, whilst cleaning staff were still working. Almuñécar held its first dog show, which was held on the Blas Infante (where the Friday Market is held) on Sunday 15th, with nearly 200 dogs taking part. In an exercise of futility, it appears, the Town Hall ordered that the zebra crossings on Avenida de Andalucia be repainted on the very eve of Semana Santa – they wanted the place to look smart before the crowds arrived.

Splitting the Tax Burden

The Spokesman for the Partido Popular of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, has announced a proposal that was approved in the last plenary meeting of the Town Council, which effectively allows local-tax payers to pay their municipal taxes by part-payments, without having to pay any surcharge or interest.

Death in a Gully: Consequences

Back at the end of 2009, we reported on an accident that occurred when a car carrying four young people plunged down a barranco. The 19-year-old driver was well over the alcohol limit. The accident resulted in the death of his 21-year-old passenger.
