In july 2010, the PP, who were then in opposition, staged photo stunt to denounce the delays in the work on the A-7; yet another promised completion date had slipped by. Present for the photo on the semi-complete motorway bridge just outside Motril was everybody from the regional PP leader, Javier Arenas, to the then PP Mayor of Motril, Carlos Rojas. They had set up a pressure group to force the then socialist government in Madrid to finish the A-7
Now, two years down the line, roles have changed and the the socialist gathered on the same unfinished bridge to chide the conservative government for not coming up with the goods. And to complete the reverse-roll scenario, the conservative government is offering the same excuses as the previous socialist administration.
The regional socialist MP, Juan Manuel Fernández, complained that the Government had only really set aside 25 million for road construction because the rest of the budget was going on paying off the compulsory-purchase orders on land used for the building of the A-7 autovia, which is surprising as it underlines the fact that the socialist left this obligation unfinished – or better said, shamefully ignored.
However, what this does make very apparent is that the posturing of the conservatives over the progress on the A-7 when they were in the opposition was precisely just that – posturing.
