A-7 Spared

The A-7, where it passes through Granada, has been spared the huge cuts received to other projects in the rest of Spain. Work continues, concluding in 2014

Fruit Crate Snatchers Nabbed

About a month ago we ran an article on how tens of thousands of plastic fruit crates had disappeared from outside plastic greenhouses – the mystery has been solved. Five people have been arrested over the robbery of over 40,000 fruit crates.

You Get What You Deserve?

The Granada, provincial branch of the Ecologistas en Acción have sent in a report (denuncia) to the Environment and Public Works Department of the Junta de Andalucía over what they qualify as a ‘tremendous amount of illegal earth shifting’ that is could well adversely effect the barranco de la Vizcarra, up above Calahonda (Karst area). It was precisely storm water from this barranco (gully) that caused the flooding in the village several months ago.

Saving the Castle

The castle at Castell de Ferro, which was originally built around 1300, is very much the worse for wear – some believe that it is on the point of collapsing, thanks to a sizable crack through one of its three remaining walls.

Tardy Protection for the Coast

The Junta has finally got its act together (after ten years), regarding the protection of what little unspoilt space is left, whilst at the same time giving some coastal towns a little more leeway over their beaches.

Impressive Cheek

Not content with breaking and entering into an unoccupied house in Calahonda, the burglar set about knocking up 3,000 euros in telephone bills to sex lines.

Not Heartening Good News?

The reason for the contradictory heading is because although the mission of the Governmental Sub-Delegate for Granada, Santiago Pérez, was to reassure the residents of the Costa Tropical that the new conservative government would give priority to the completion of the A-7 autovia, the wording wasn’t actually that reassuring.
