The tailbacks on the N-340 and A-44 during the May-Day break were a reminder of how the summer traffic will probably be.
Despite the Central Government’s self-congratulations over the opening of the A-7 bypass for Torrenueva, nobody was left in any doubt that the real problems: Rules Bridge and the Taramay-Lobres A-7 section, remain.
A 5-kilometre tailback leading up to the northern end of the bridge under repair over the Rules Reservoir caused the Guardia Civil to step in and divert the traffic down the aging N-323. The tailbacks are caused by double-lane traffic being squeezed into a single land over the bridge.
Meanwhile, down on the coast, despite the habitual cones being used to provide an extra lane along the narrow N-340 up to the Salobreña entrance, it took drivers well over an hour to reach the beginning of the autovía at Taramay.
Editorial Comment: we wouldn’t like to think that construction progress leading to the inauguration of the much needed taramay-lobres A-7 is being deliberately slowed down to coincide with more ‘favourable’ dates in view of coming elections…
