Deadly Diving

A 37-year-old Portugues tourist lost his life after diving into the sea from a rocky outcrop in the Paseo de los Carbineros area in Nerja. The accident occurred around midday on Thursday the 24th of February, when the man, who was in the company of family and friends, decided that he would dive head first into the sea from a low rocky outcrop…

Mirador Facelift

Anybody who has been up to the top of the old town, to the parking next to the church, will have seen workmen digging up the concrete surface in front of the church. The reason for this is that the Public Works Department of the Town Hall has decided to do something about the damp problem caused by rainwater seeping down into the tunnel.

Ex-Municipal Secretary Speaks Out

The ex Municipal Secretary, Arantxa Ibarreche, has spoken out for the first time since her dismissal, which took place at the beginning of this month. She was invited to speak at a meeting of the Asociacion Mujeres Ecologistas sexitanas, where most of the apparatus of the CA, including the ex-Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides, was present.

Minister Promises Progress

The Minister for Fomento (Public Works), Ana Pastor, during a visit to the town has assured the Mayor of Motril, Carlos Rojas, that the Central Government is fully behind the termination of the A-7 and even including the Costa Tropical within the Mediterranean rail corridor, which had previously been rejected by the Socialist Government prior to the General Elections.

Elitist or Common Sense?

You would think that developers would be very much in tune with how people want to live; not just where they want to live, but in many cases, they are more in tune with how much money can be made, knowing that somebody will always buy the properties in question… even if they do eventually take the developer to court.

Conflict of Interests?

It appears that the majority of orders sent out to printers by the Town Hall during the last municipal administration (Juan Carlos Benavides 2007-2011) went to just one printer, Graficas Seximar S.L., which would not be questionable in itself, if it were not for the fact that the printer concerned belongs to the family of one of his party’s councillors, María Dolores Sánchez.

Plaza de la Tranvía Parking

For those of you who are not sure where this underground car park is, it’s the one in the square just on the opposite side of the main roundabout from Plaza Las Esplanadas. OK, so it wasn’t exactly a GPS-rivalling indicator, as far as explanations go, but you know where we’re talking about.

Salobreña Time Saver

Do you remember when we ran the article about the inauguration of the Citizen Information Office at the Salobreña Town Hall? I don’t, but it’s a great way to start an article, anyway… Just joking.

Cine Negro

There is no consensus on whether Cine Negro (Film Noir) is a genre, or just a mood, or even just a lack of studio lighting, but everybody loves it. The general ingredients for the Cine-Negro cocktail are the strange, the erotic, the ambivalent, and the cruel. Hell, imagine half of Humphrey Bogart’s face in the shadow of his hat and you’re on the right track.
