Priest Packs His Bags

The parish priest of Trevélez decided to throw in the towel and resign from his post there.

The villagers found out about it on the day that they should have held the procession for San Benito. In fact, four clerics turned up to officiate the church service that day.

During the service, or Mass, they announced that until a new priest is appointed to the parish, the parish priest of Pampaneira will stand in to cover church services in the village.

The outgoing priest wasn’t keen to say anything to the press and the Archbishop basically repeated what he had said before and defended the posture taken by the hitherto priest of Trevélez.

The local women’s association were not exactly heartbroken upon hearing the news that their spoil-sport priest had decided to leg it. They almost immediately decided to plan for next year’s San Benito celebrations — the new priest, whoever it might be, had better not get in the way.

Actually, the outgoing priests last church service ended with him blowing sarcastic kisses to the parishioners as he bade them farewell (and good riddance, no doubt).

As for the councillors in the Town Hall… well let’s just say that many of their wives are members of the association and a low profile, or even a supportive one for the association, was in play.

  1. Darren says:

When the WO reared up it’s scary head
    The parish priest of Trevélez
Bravely turned his tail and fled
Brave, brave, brave, brave (insert name here)

    *chorus*
    He ran away
    He chickened out
    He buggered off
    He headed out etc.

TBH, I was expecting a bit more entertainment before this inevitable result. Maybe one of them gave him THE LOOK.
