A Gazette reader writes in concerning what is happening in Gaza and how those that feel strongly about it can do something about it.
In solidarity with Palestine and the town of Khan Yunis in Gaza, which has been twinned with Almunecar – La Herradura since 1986, banners have been placed in prominent positions in Almuñécar asking people to boycott Israeli products. Bravo.

If Governments worldwide refuse to place economic sanctions on Israel, BDS (Boycott, Sanction, Divest)
is the most powerful way people can exert pressure on Israel to comply with international law and human rights standards regarding Palestinians.

Reader’s comment: “If Hamas were to release the hostages still being held, then perhaps the situation may improve. If the reckless attacks by Hamas had never happened, then the Middle East would be in a safer position today. The Palestinians need to realize that allowing a terrorist group to run Gaza is a recipe for disaster. I am astonished how people from around the world who have probably never been to the Middle East can be so anti Israel, when it was Israel who was attacked. What would these people want from their respective Governments and Armed Forces if their own Countries had been attacked by terrorists.” – Shiner
Reader’s comment: “That maybe so, but in order to get at one or two members of Hamas in no way justifies murdering hundreds of Palestinians. What is going on is genocide, plain for all to see. You cannot defeat Hamas for the very simple reason it is an idealogy.” – Dee
Reader’s comment: “I spent about 6 months in the Middle East in the 90s and saw first-hand how the Israelis treated the Palestinians. The IDF even shot near us just for talking to some Palestinians. I saw the IDF walking past disabled and elderly Palestinians who were trying to make a living by selling a few clothes and kicking all the clothes into one pile to mix them up and laughing at them. One Israeli told me that he liked to grab an Arab, strip them, beat them up and drive them a few hours away and leave them there! Such a nice set of people, NOT! Genocide is not the answer. Surely they are just creating more problems for themselves in the future. I don’t agree with the October attack! I am not anti-Semitic! I have friends from all religions, even though I don’t believe in God.” – Jodie
Reader’s comment: “There is a sad ironic contradiction as to what is happening. First of all, perhaps the West, namely the USA, have politicised the Gaza issue and called it antisemetic to question or criticise Israel. Second, Gaza and the actions of Israel are a disguised path for Western military to influence and control middle eastern/ gulf terrorism. Israel is a surrogate.Third, Isn’t Israel doing to Muslim Palestinians what was done to Jews during the Second World War?” – Paul Tiscornia
Reader’s comment: “…and if Israeli ‘settlers’ hadn’t been stealing peoples houses along with sundry other atrocities over the last couple of decades, maybe Hamas wouldn’t have managed to get a foothold in Palestine. He said, she said etc. Meanwhile:
“At least 798 people have been killed while seeking food at distribution points operated by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and other humanitarian convoys since the end of May, the UN human rights office said on Friday.”” – Darren
Reader’s comment: “On the other hand Israel has been treating the Palestinians terribly and expelling them from land that they have lived on for hundreds of years. All whist ignoring UN directives. The Hames attack was terrible and not to be excused but they were driven to it by the inaction of the world in doing anything about zionist attacks. We must remember that the Palestinians are also a Semitic race so it is about time we called out Israeli government’s antisemitic policies.” – Paul Craddock
Reader’s comment: “As Owen Jones remarked on Twitter today “The Daily Express is the most right-wing mainstream newspaper in Britain. It now has a better position on Gaza than the Labour government”
For the record I am neither left nor right wing, but I believe in International Humanitarian Law which Governments are ignoring with the genocide which is happening now in Gaza.
