Drivers on their way down to the coast on the A-44 were surprised to see flames in the brush alongside the autovía with Infoca crews out dealing with it around midday yesterday.

The fire was more or less where this main artery between the city of Granada and the Costa Tropical passes the Embalse de Béznar.

With so many cars streaming past yesterday, the emergency coordination centre was soon inundated with calls coming in from motorists.

Besides the forest firefighters from Infoca, the city of Granada fire service was also called out. Obviously, the Traffic Police were also needed to direct the traffic and keep it flowing at the scene near kilometre point 163 on the southbound lanes.

By one in the afternoon, the fire had been dealt with but not without logical disruptions in the heavy traffic to the coast on a Saturday with the summer in full swing.
