Work on the groyne on Playa Granada now continues after the pause because of a lack of suitable boulders from the arguably illegal Santa Teresa Quarry in Lobres.
So far it reaches 200 metres out into the sea so it has another 47 metres to go according to the plan. If all goes well, it should be finished by June 2025, which means it certainly won’t be ready for Easter and could reach into the summer, as well.

Work began on the sea-defence structure last October. Whilst the work goes on, earth-moving machinery is trundling past the groyne, ferrying sand to replace that lost during winter gales.
So far, they have moved 520,000 cu/m of the 800,000 needed. About half of it (243,000) has come from the bed of Río Guadalfeo.
The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, emphasises the importance of the coastal construction work: “It’s infrastructure that we have been waiting for for many years,” adding, “We hope that the completion scheduled will be adhered to and work competed on time.”
