Third Lane for A-44 Through Valley

The Ministry of Transport has ordered the drawing up of a project to increase the lanes between Alhendín and Beznar to three.

It is estimated that this surface increase will cost 26.3m euros to cover 20 kilometres of autovía between those two points.

These additional lanes are between Alhendín & Bénzar on the southbound lanes and between Dúrcal & Alhendín on the northbound ones.

The reason behind this is that the autovía passes through several towns within the Valle de Lecrín so there is a lot of short-haul traffic between them and the city of Granada, which causes congestion within this section.

Presently, between kilometre point 158 and 143 on the Motril-Granada side there is a build up of traffic as it narrows down to just two lanes from three, yet there is enough room to put in the third lane.
