The latest westerly gales that cruised along the Costa Tropical have swept away sections of Playa Granada, which is hardly a new occurrence.
But here we are with only a few days to got before work commences on the breakwater or groyne construction which will supposedly stop this happening again, as well as causing the beach to grow in width.
Fortunately, of course, the beach season has ended, or at least for the majority of beach users. When the colder weather arrives, the beaches will be the haunt of beach walkers… and the odd Scandinavian bather!
Anyway, owing to this latest assault on Playa Granada by the elements, the Motril fire service and Policía Local were called in the mark off the more dangerous areas so that the accident prone can’t do themselves any damage.
The groyne, when it is completed, will project nearly 179 metres into the sea, curving round to the west. It will be situated on La Punta del Santo, (where the little wooden bridge is next to Chiringuito Hoyo 19).
