The Almuñécar Imperial Navy has taken to the seas in the form of surface-cleaning boats, explained the Councillor for Beaches and the Environment, Lucía González.

Manning these two, ruthless, flotsam hunters are workers from Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) with a crew of two on each; one to steer and the other to man the oerlikons.

They will ply, menacingly, the water off the beaches between 11.00h and 17.00h and will be based in the Marina del Este.

It is worth remembering that Almuñécar and La Herradura have 18km of beaches, between the Barranco de Enmedia and Playa Cantarriján

The FFC representatives, Daniel Laguna, explained, “During high season, the company will have the two skiffs operational up until the 31st of August,” adding, “Our other beach-maintenance services have 25 personnel, three tractors and two lorries.”
