Torrenueva Costa Road Changes

El Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible has approved changes to the N-340 where it passes through Torrenueva Costa.

TNC N-340 Main DragWith the opening of the A-7 autovía which now takes all the straight-through traffic that the N-340 handled, the modification can be made to the old main road as it is now a local-traffic, urban road. This means, for examples, that it can have roundabouts, etc

Well, the 3.2m euros that the Central Government has set aside for changing the entrance and thoroughfare will be used to form a central reservation between the two lanes of traffic.

Quite where they will find room for that is not clear but as the N-340 where it goes through the centre of Torrecuevas is no longer a “main road,” it does not require the hard shoulders, for example. The money also includes modification to pedestrian paths and gardened areas.

Furthermore, the road will become municipal property and no longer belong to the state.

The project will be submitted to public viewing before being published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) which will make it official.

Editorial comment: those of you who have been here long enough will remember the N-340 where it passed through Nerja before the autovía coming from Málaga got that far; it was a nightmare of traffic-light junctions. The first thing that Nerja did when it passed into their competence was to substitute the traffic lights for roundabouts. Let us hope that this is what the Torrenueva Costa Town Hall also does.
