The Guardia Civil arrested three Romanian men, suspected of carrying out theft on agricultural land at the western end of the Vega de Granada.
The men, aged between 25 and 49, all have extensive criminal records and are believed to have been behind incidents in Láchar and Cijuela at the end of last month.
The first case of theft was reported by a farmer in Cijuela as somebody had broken into his irrigation hut and stolen the large battery belonging to the irrigation pump, as well as 50 litres of diesel.
The second incident was on the property of the manager of the irrigation association, Canal de Cacín, which is in an area known as Aspersión Vieja and Hoja de la Torre (Láchar). Here, 16 irrigation boxes where taken, with a combined value of 3,000 euros.
Guardia officers belonging to the Armilla post investigated both cases of theft and interviewed a rural security guard, who gave them information (vehicle number plates) that led to the arrests. Other witnesses confirmed that they had seen suspicious vehicles nearby on the days of the theft.
With this information the police were able to identify the suspects and make the arrests.
Editorial comment: It really doesn’t matter what nationality they were, be they Romanian, Brits or German; if you are a foreigner here and you commit crime, you should get permanently expelled from the country.
