In case you hadn't heard, the new roundabout on the N-340 giving access to Motril at the western end was finally opened to regular traffic on Tuesday.
It had taken two months and should have been finished before the end of May but better late than never. The new roundabout, which has done away with the T-junction (which caused no end of tailbacks during summer months) cost 428,977 euros to build and is wide enough to handle HGVs with long loads.
Rumour has it that on a clear day you can actually see right across the roundabout to its other side in the distance! OK, so, it’s not a piddly little one but rather can be described as a butch roundabout.
Of course, the Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, says it’s wonderful while managing not to credit the socialist Central Government for building it. Had it been the conservative Junta de Andalucía responsible for its creation, there would have been 24-hour, Gregorian chanting led by the mayor in B flat in praise.
So, there you have it, Motril has roundabout junctions for all its points of access from the N-340! Almuñécar is still bogged down by traffic-light junctions from one end to the other. Never mind
