Reader's letter on continual urban growth in Motril
Referring to an article published on the 22nd of April: Motril’s Construction Growth.
Does anyone oppose this development on what could be a nature reserve?
Will planners allow Motril new building to merge with Salobrena? Would that be a pity? Or maybe we should allow developers to keep building on open spaces so the economy can keep growing as we exploit our limited resources?
I see that 49006 m2 of farmland to the west of Ronda de Poniente is being offered for sale at just over €1mln for building. I recommend renovation and refurbishment over new build, and protecting ecology over short term profit.
Will there be enough beach … and sand for all these additional people?

Alas the system is geared for more development. I very much doubt that there is a genuine need to build more houses rather a demand for those wealthy enough to own a second home. Of course squeezing out more nature is never a good thing in the long term. Further joining up Motril with Salobrena will replicate the wall of stifling development stretching west of Malaga
The short answer is yes. Town halls make money from the IBI, so it is income. The system encourages development. It’s a shame that the environment comes second and also that there are so many unfinished developments. Right now Salobreña has a massive one near the rotunda. Central government could change the system but that is sadly unlikely.
