Shop Break-in Suspect Arrested

A 19-year-old man was arrested by the Guardia Civil suspected of having carried out a smash-&-grab on a supermarket in the early hours of one morning.

alm-guardia-car-onlThe burglary took place on the 17th of last month but a neighbour heard the loud noise in the street below and looking out saw that the shop window on the opposite side of the street had been smashed.

The neighbour saw the young man snatching bottles off the shelves of the window display and immediately phoned the proprietor, who in turned phoned the Guardia Civil.

The shop owner reported the loss of several bottles of spirits with a combined value of 120 euros, which is the least of the shop owner’s woes as it will cost much more than that to replace the window, unless the shop is insured, of course.

However, the thief cut himself on the broken glass and left traces of blood at the scene of the crime. This clue, together with the description given by the neighbour who had witnessed the break in, led the police to the suspect, who already has a criminal record.

When the police took him in for questioning, it was noted that he had cuts on his arms and his blood group matched that of the sample taken as evidence.
