This bank-holiday weekend will see the Guardia Civil carrying out drug controls on roads leading down to the coast, as parties & pills will boom.
Whilst the Guardia Civil will be mounting road checks (there was one at the entrance to Salobreña on Friday) the Policía Local in the towns along the coast will be doing the same within the municipalities.
But it’s not only down here on the coast, but also in and around our provincial capital, especially along the secondary roads.
The Ley de Tráfico y Seguridad Vial contemplates fines of up to 1,000 euros for those driving under the influence of drugs, as well as under the influence of alcohol. You will also lose between four and six points off your licence. Furthermore, drug-related driving offences can also come with a 3-to-6-month prison sentence.
Not surprisingly, 45% of the deaths on Spanish roads last year were alcohol or drug related, autopsies revealed. In otherwords, nearly every other road death.
