The water, utility company, Aguas y Servicios is in the midst of clearing out rain drains on the Costa Tropical in preparation for the coming rains.
Their maintenance workers have been making sure that the drains and rain-drainage systems are not blocked in Motril, Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Lújar, Torrenueva Costa, Almuñécar, Otívar, Jete, Lentegí, Salobreña, Molvízar, Ítrabo, Albuñol, Albondón, Rubite, Polopos-La Mamola and Sorvilán.
These 16 municpalities are part of the Ciclo Integral de Agua de la Costa Tropical and between them have 477 km of sewage and rain-drainage systems, with the latter having 16,980 rain drains. Each one will be cleaned out twice before the year is out; i.e. 34,002 clearing outs.
So far they have carried out 24,987 such inspections and extracted 105,516 litres of residue: litter, silt and backed up stagnant water.
If you are a glutton for details, we can add that this has soaked up 6,420 man hours and used four unblocking machines, three bowsers and two other lorries.
