If there is one thing that can give you indigestion at the table, it is when a robber bursts into your restaurant with a large knife. This was the case in Granada.
Two males, a 27-year-old Spaniard and a 33-year-old Frenchman, allegedly stormed into a crowded restaurant suitably armed with something naughty and demanded a “non-culinary takeaway,” according to the Policía Nacional. Actually, only one of them did – the other was waiting outside in the getaway car.
Both men were later arrested in the northern part of the city, which, on a good day, makes Mogadishu look like Butlin’s. Actually, it’s not that bad but it’s not somewhere where you would leave your car parked, let’s say, but rather an ideal place to buy a kidney or sell a daughter.
Anyway, the likely lads had managed to walk away with the takings in the till (in fact, they took the whole till) and somebody’s gold ring – hopefully, without the finger attached.
The robbery occurred around eleven in the evening on Monday the 5th of this month. Not being one given to patience, the robber ripped the cash box of the till out causing around 2,000 euros in damage before making off with only 400 euros in takings. As for the gold ring, the restaurant owner had received it from a customer in lieu of payment for a meal.
The getaway car was in place and the thieves sped off. Just as they were disappearing the other owner of the restaurant arrived together with the wife of his partner – they were returning after delivering a takeaway. He immediately set off on the motorbike in pursuit. However, the thieves got away.
As these two men were ‘not strangers to the law’ the police soon identified them and tracked them down. They also managed to recover 200 euros from the till.
