Two policemen belonging to the Guardia Civil managed to save a biker’s life after he suffered a lower-limb amputation.

The incident occurred about 22.55h one evening around the end of last month in front of Málaga Port. The two policemen were on duty within the port and witnessed an accident involving a biker just outside the port permiter on the Paseo Marítimo Antonio Machado.

The rider after a brutal collision was thrown a couple of dozen metres further down the road. The policemen raced to his aid and saw that he had lost his left leg. One of the policemen applied a tourniquet whilst the other recovered the leg and ran to a nearby restaurant in search of ice to preserve the severed limb.

In the meantime the ambulance had arrived and the victim (together with his severed limb) was rushed to the regional hospital in the city.

The doctors later said that thanks to the rapid action of the policemen they were able to save the victim’s life, although it was impossible to save the leg.
