A German woman and her adult son were caught allegedly trying to smuggle an illegal immigrant into the country via Motril Port on the 30th of December.
The 51-year-old woman and her 32-year-old son were both arrested when customs found a 27-year-old Moroccan in the boot area of her car after disembarking from the Alhucemas ferry.
The ‘boot passenger’ was hidden under a blanket between the back seats and their luggage.
Under Spanish law a person who attempts to introduce a foreign person into the country by evading customs control faces criminal charges for People Smuggling.
The Moroccan was handed over to the Policía Nacional for repatriation and the two German citizens have been remanded in custody pending a court appearance.
