29 Rescued off Motril

MOT immigrants 01 OnLA boat carrying 29 people, 27 men and 2 women, all of sub-Saharan origin, was intercepted by the Guardia Civil Coastguard Unit in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 22nd October), and all the occupants taken to Motril Port.

The emergency 112 control room received a call reporting the sighting of a boat with several people on board. A Guardia maritime unit was despatched to intercept the craft, while on land the National Police units, Motril Local Police units, Health Authority workers and of course, the Red Cross, were all despatched to the port to meet the new arrivals.

The 112 call was received 00.15 and everyone was in Motril Port by 02.40 hrs, so, pretty good going. Mind you, those guys must be a pretty well honed team by now.

None of the boat’s occupants were injured and all appeared to be in reasonably good health, so none were hospitalized.
