Rubbish Hopper Vandal Caught

SAL Rubbish Hopper Fire OnLThe Salobreña Policia Local received a call in the early hours of Sunday from the Guardia Civil; a couple of rubbish hoppers had been set on fire.

The said bins were on Avenida Antonio Machado where it meets Calle Cristo, so a fire engine was dispatched as well.

Thanks to info from locals, the municipal police were rapidly able to identify and track down the alleged culprit; a man from Motril with the initials E.G.I.

They found him near the municipal market, where he was arrested and handed over to the Guardia Civil… for a good tweaking!

Just joking! I’ve already got into trouble with the Salobreña Guardia Civil commanding office some years back after I quipped that they hung suspects upside down and beat the soles of their feet, whilst tweaking their nipples…

They were not amused and complained to the then Mayor, Sr. Menéndez, who mentioned it during an interview that I ran with him. I pleaded “Monty Pythons” and promised to make amends. Guess that was a failure.

But back to the article… The present Mayor of Salobreña said that the damaged caused to and by the burning rubbish containers ascends to around 5,000 euros.
