The 30 families that live in the Barrio Agriaz, next to Motril Port, will be happy to hear that work has begun to do away with the flooding after each heavy rainfall.

Thanks to the Town Hall and the Port Authorities getting their heads together – and not to mention a budget of 80,000 euros – work to put in a rain-drainage system began in mid February. The task is scheduled to be complete in two months – mid April, when it will be connected up to the existing system beneath Avenida de Julio Moreno.

Of course, whilst all that tinkering around will be going on beneath street level, the opportunity will be taken to embellish the surface a bit around the green areas.

The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro. reiterated how the Town Hall was determined to “revitalize” these two barrios, namely Varadero and Santa Adela. She also thanked the Port Authorities for their cooperation in this project.

Lastly, I’m sorry to say that we were only sent a photograph of politicians looking erudite whilst contemplating a plan, rather than an actual photo of the affected area – but even so, we are grateful for the Motril, Town Hall press releases.
