The Mayor of Salobreña, Avelino Menéndez, has been known to make controversial comments before, but in an attempt to justify the new IBI rates, he might have plunged himself in even deeper. Judge for yourself:
“I’m not ashamed to say it…during hard times, you have to treat badly those that have more, as well as outsiders.”
With these words he defended a system in which those who have a holiday home in Salobreña will have to pay more than local residents. The Mayor claims that his words were taken out of context, during a heated council session that lasted three hours. He also managed to describe the PSOE spokesman as ‘useless,’ which didn’t go down well, either.

How glad I am that I do not have a place there, how welcolme would you feel, what a Prat !
