A 63-year-old woman was seriously injured around mid July when she was struck by a car in Salobreña. The driver sped off, without stopping to find out how badly the woman was injured.
The Guardia Civil were busily trying to find the culprit when a citizen came forward, who had managed to remember and jot down the number plate. The 30-year-old driver was located and arrested.
Not only was he charged with leaving the scene of an accident without stopping to offer assistance (I can’t remember the British legal term for this), but it was also found that he lacked both a driver’s licence and a valid insurance policy.
The incident took place on the 17th at 19.30 in Calle Manuel de Falla. The pedestrian was hit by a van and run over. It was evident, therefore, that the driver could not have failed to notice having the collision or the vehicle passing over the victim.
The woman was taken to Santa Ana Hospital with three broken ribs and multiple bruising.
Fortunately, several passers-by witnessed the accident and not only managed to describe the vehicle, but in one case, note down the number plate, as mentioned above.
The van was found in Calle Joaquín Legaza. Upon inspection it was noted that the damage to the vehicle corresponded with what was to be expected after having collided with a human body.
