Busy Weekend for Mountain Rescue

The Guardia Civil Mountain Rescue unit, Sereim, is busy all year round; in summer just as much as winter, rescuing people in the Sierra Nevada area. They were called out four times in just one July weekend.

A Day Out

We are blessed with what surrounds us in the term of countryside; we can stroll along subtropical beach or if we prefer, walk through mountains and lush-green plateaux. With a short drive we can take our dogs for a walk amongst pines forests, rimmed with frost on the north face of hills and yet sit and enjoy the sunny terrace of a bar on a paseo – we are spoilt.

Junta Stops Golf Courses

The Junta de Andalucía has opposed the creation of new golf courses that do not comply to each and every one of the stipulated prerequisites in the province of Granada the rest of Andalucía.

Lucky Escape Avalanche

It was was only last Spring that an experienced climber of Anglo-Spanish nationality lost his life in an avalanche in the Sierra Nevada. Now, with the last snowfalls of the season, another avalanche struck in the Los Tajos de la Virgen area, but this time, fortunately, without claiming any lives, although one man was injured.

Ski Resort Discord

The publicly owned company, Cetursa, that manages the whole of the skiing complex on Sierra Nevada decided to close the season earlier than normal, which with the late snowfalls at the beginning of April, did not amuse the rest of the businesses up there; restaurants, hotels and shops.

Body Found

The body of the man from Zafarraya that was killed in an avalanche in the Sierra Nevada on the 20th of February (our March Front-Page Article) was finally located on the 18th of May, thanks to the Spring thaw.
