The body of a 34-year-old man who had disappeared on the Sierra Nevada on the 18th of December of last year was discovered at the end of October.
It was found in the Tajos de la Virgen area on the north face at an altitude of just over 3,000 metres.
Since the man was reported missing the Guardia Civil had carried out numerous search missions, concentrating on the Genil and Dílar River valleys and later along the Barranco de San Juan, before moving higher, around the north face.
The Guardia Civil were joined by members of the fire services, volunteers and the man’s family members. The victim’s family has nothing but praise for the Guardia Civil in their perseverance and professionalism.
The location of the find indicates that the man fell victim to a heavy snow fall and his body was hidden by snow (owing to snow lasting longer on the north face) into mid summer.
